Eat & Drink
Food lovers are in for a real treat in the town, with an abundance of great restaurants to choose from and the annual Food & Drink Festival attracts foodies from all over. Restaurants are packed in the famous Promenade and the Montpellier area but also discovered in pockets in and around Cheltenham. Here are some of our favourites.
The Royal Oak is a 16th Century free-house situated in the Burgage at the bottom of Mill Street, just a five minute walk from The Cottages. The pub is split into a restaurant area and a traditional bar. There is a lovely garden with outdoor heaters and a pavilion for indoor events.
They have built an excellent reputation for food and have even been listed as a Top 10 English Pub. It is highly recommend that if you want to eat here you should call ahead on 01242 522344 to reserve a table.
Every year The Royal Oak hosts a Beer and Sausage Festival in May and a Cheese and Cider Festival in August. Both events are highly popular amongst locals and Cheltonians. Click here to get a taste of the Beer and Sausage Festival.
We believe The Hewlett Arms is one of Cheltenham's hidden gems. Under new ownership since March 2014, the landlords have really turned this place into a must-visit. Located at the base of Harp Hill, The Hewlett Arms is just a five minute drive or 1.3 mile walk from the cottages. They are passionate about serving cooked to order food using fresh, seasonal, local ingredients and are constantly rotating their real ale selection including local breweries Battledown Brewery and Prescott Brewery.
They have a lovely South facing garden which is superb in the Summer months. They have recently fitted six outdoor shacks in the garden which are cosy and each have heaters and electricity points. Follow their Facebook page to find out about their ongoing events throughout the year.
